Competition Number 3 Report
RASSPL Kaysers Beach
On Saturday the 25th of August, the RASSPL Border Blacktips rock and surf angling team hosted our
third competition of the 2018-2019 season along the beautiful Kaysers Beach coastline. The weather
conditions were absolutely stunning with a working 1.8m sea swell, blue skies, light westerly wind
and an air temperature hitting the high twenties. 71 anglers made the trip out and although nothing
Big was caught, a few decent species were caught. Heaviest Edible went to ever reliable member
Derek Nicholson with a 5.2kg Kob, Second went to committee member Anthony Davis with a Black
Steenbras of 3.3kg with third going to visitor Shane Whittington with a 2.7kg Pignose Grunter.
Heaviest non-edible for the day went to member Casey Day as with a Ragged Tooth shark of 21.1kg.
Top points and Angler of the Day went to member Colin Scheepers with a total of 661.3 individual
points. Top Lady went to visiting angler Jaqui Mauer with an impressive 177.8 points and Top Junior
going to young Madden Openshaw with a Blacktail of 25cm.
A total of 197 fish were caught consisting of 24 different species between the 71 anglers weighing in
a total of 160.4kg with all fish being safely released to swim another day. We are thee only 100%
catch and release fishing league in South Africa that has been endorsed by the Rhodes University
Ichthyology & Fisheries Science department as a marine research ambassador on which we pride
ourselves greatly. We would also like to convey a huge thank you to our major sponsors PENN, Buco,

rock and surf competitions would not be possible!
Join us at our next competition to be held at Haga Haga on the 6 th of October. The fishing area for
