Dear Angler,

I am writing to you on behalf of the One Ocean Hub, a multinational project that aims to promote the sustainable use of our coastal ocean resources in South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Fiji and the Solomon Islands. This five year project is funded by the UK Research and Innovation through the Global Challenges Research Fund and has many research partners with expertise in science, the law and arts. This Hub is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).

The South African researchers on this project have realized that recreational fisheries are the most important fishery sector in the coastal zone, yet there is far less scientific information for this sector and no research programs to it. The One Ocean Hub project would like to change that and aims to improve our scientific knowledge and governance (including policy, management, compliance) of the fishery.

Scientists are realizing more and more that we need to conduct research that is relevant to the end-user (the anglers) and that the questions posed by this group are valuable in setting their research questions. We would therefore like to encourage you (the recreational fisheries community) to provide us with research questions related to recreational fisheries and their management that you feel are important. This will help us determine the research direction for the One Ocean Hub project and allow us to develop research questions that are relevant to you, the stakeholders.
